Over the past few years we have developed the facilities at Farm Camp in order to make this place a top notch experience.
Our Dining Hall is where the amazing eating and socializing happens at Farm Camp. It also houses the restrooms and showers. There is a screened in outdoor seating area in the back so that those who really like the peace and quite can enjoy it even during meals.
The Arts & Crafts Building was an old barn that was refurbished for our farm arts/crafts use. It may have been cheaper to build new, but this building fits the character of the farm and allowed us to re-use instead of throwing something away. We have new concrete floors and custom standing benches for craft projects. We also to classic crafts such as Tie-Dying, basket weaving, soap making, felting, friendship bracelets, candle making and paper making. This year we will also see some additional craft projects such as pot painting (for rainy days), rubber stamping, lanyard critters, origami and much, much more!
Here in the Animal Barn we get to meet lots of interesting animals that will soon become your friends! There are lots of goats (and some new babies as well!), cows, a horse, chickens, cats, a pig, a donkey and more! Everyone gets to take turns doing animal chores in the morning and our counselors will teach about caring for the animals during the sessions.
The Veggie Garden is about 5 acres of planted gardens, raised beds and berry patches. The campers will help with some weeding but spend more of their time learning about what plants need to grow and a range of activities that will broaden their gardening experiences!
Here at the Farm Camp we live in Yurts. There are typically 8 campers and 2 counselors in a yurt. Yurts have bunk beds and a carpeted center area for relaxing in the evenings and playing cards. Each group of children in the yurt stays with the counselors for special programs and gets to know each other very well by the end of the sessions.
Out back by the boating area is our Pavilion. The roof from a local mill here in Claryville was saved and we put new framing underneath to create an outdoor seating area for relaxing out of the sun or can be used as an extra program or activity space.
We are so excited for our Water Hole! This is really just a deeper area of a nearby creek system that has incredibly clear waters that invite campers to cool off after a long day of work around the farm! Many of the counselors are lifeguards so even when there isn’t scheduled water time, the campers might be able to convince their counselor to take them for a dip!
The Pond is where we do all of our boating. The campers can take out a kayak or a canoe and practice their boating skills! This is another location for our water ecology class, in addition to the nearby streams, and the campers get a chance to investigate the small insects that live near or in the water!
We also share facilities at Main Camp with the Greenhouse. Most of our garden starts here and is moved in flats over to Farm Camp. There are a number of house plants that stay here through summer until it gets too cold outside. We also have a number of classes that are held here during the school year – organic gardening, lip balm making, plant pressing, dissecting plants etc.
